The biggest icc event of this year “t-20 world cup” is just about to get started in the June. The 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will get underway on June 2, as the USA take on Canada in their first-ever World Cup game on home soil. The West Indies are co-hosting the tournament; the first senior men’s ICC tournament held in the Caribbean since the 2010 edition of the T20 World Cup. Led by Rovman Powell, they will be hunting for a record third title in the shortest international format. Defending champions England will also be aiming for a third title, having defeated Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup Final.
The tournament is being contested by a record 20 teams, an expansion from 16 teams at the 2022 tournament; this includes the two hosts, the top eight teams from the 2022 edition, the next two teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, and eight teams determined by regional qualifiers. Canada and Uganda qualified for the men’s T20 World Cup for the first time, while the United States is participating for the first time by virtue of being co-host.
Meanwhile, Team India are scheduled to open their campaign on June 5, and will take on Ireland in New York. But the main focus will be on India’s showdown against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to feature a total of 55 matches across six different islands in the Caribbean. The semi-final matches will be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, leading up to the final, which is scheduled for Barbados on June 29, marking the culmination of the tournament.
